Two weeks from this Friday is the end of first quarter. Please be sure you are checking HAC daily and making sure your child is turning in all their work. Looking forward to the next three quarters, make sure your child is taking advantage of retakes as they are available to them. Remember, retakes are not always granted. Your child has to show proof of how they plan to do better on their assessment. Also, AR is a significant part of their Reading grade. I have been checking AR progress a few times throughout the quarter and have emailed students that have a ways to go toward their goal.
10/28: *Football playoffs begin! Bedford is away at Wyandotte Roosevelt. Playoff sweatshirts will be sold in the JHS cafeteria this week. I believe you can purchase other spirit wear at The Sign Lady.
*Halloween party: JHS cafeteria at 6:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased during lunches.
10/31: *Halloween!! Trick-or-Treating is from 6-8 in Bedford!
11/01: *Professional Development for teachers--no school for students.
11/06: *Daylight Savings Time--fall behind an hour!
11/08: *Election Day
11/11: *Veteran's Day assembly
*End of Q1!
Feel free to contact Ms. Hicks regarding daily classroom items.
Some students have let me know that they are MUCH more comfortable with the Junior High now that they have been around for a few weeks. I'm so glad to hear it!!
A few reminders...
-Be sure to check HAC daily so you are able to keep up with your child's grades. HAC is our communication tool for parents, students, and teachers so we are all on the same page with grades. If you ever have a question about your child's grade, please don't hesitate to contact Ms. Hicks now or me when I return.
-Be sure your child is reading AT LEAST 60 minutes each day. AR goals will continue to increase each quarter. I set goals based largely on what they said their goal was at the end of last year. Goals will not be lower than what they currently are.
-When your child is absent, make sure you contact the attendance office to report the absence.
-Class Dojo: each parent is required to join Dojo so you are aware of your child's day. Remember, 5 negatives in one week results in a one hour after school penalty hall on either Tuesday or Thursday. Ten negatives in a month will result in a Friday penalty hall until 6:00 PM.
-Tonight is the HOMECOMING football game!! Of course it's supposed to rain (homecoming week curse). Encourage your child to attend the football games if they don't already. The Junior High has a seating section for students and Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Green are at each game monitoring our section. You will also see several other teachers around at the games.
I hope you are enjoying the fall weather as much as I am--fall is my FAVORITE season for so many reasons!! Please feel free to contact me if there is anything I might be able to help you with or Ms. Hicks about daily classroom questions. I will be in during homeroom next Friday to hang out with the kids :)
Have a great weekend--GO MULES & GO BUCKS!!
Welcome back to school and welcome to your first year at BJHS!! I am so excited to meet all my students and parents. I'm on maternity leave until the first week of December but will be in and out of the classroom periodically while I'm on leave.
Last year I was horrible about updating my blog but this year one of my goals is to blog much more frequently. Here is where you will find information about what's going on in class, important dates, and some announcements.
I am looking forward to a great school year!!
Holy cow I have been busy!! I am FINALLY sitting down to update my blog.
I am going to try to update it either weekly or biweekly.
Welcome back and welcome to BJHS!! A few things I want to make you aware of!
Communication is EXTREMELY important to me!! If you have any questions, please email me. Here's to a great year!!!
Due to M-Step, we are unable to make it to the BJHS library every 2 weeks like we have all year. Books are due May 14th and library is going to be closed for inventory from that point until the end of the school year. Our 6th grade M-Step isn't until the end of May, so we are going to be making some trips to the Bedford library now that we have had a tour and every one has their own library card!
Good afternoon! BJHS is collecting Box Tops for Education. Mrs. Nimigean and Mr. Muck are running the program and we have made quite a bit of money so far. Box Tops are an easy way for our school to earn money. For the longest time I threw away box tops without clipping them. I have asked my family members to start saving them for me in a plastic baggy so I can bring them in to school. Just imagine how much more money we could earn if grandparents and relatives started clipping their box tops for students to bring in!!
Please check for box tops before throwing things out. I even showed my class a tissue box that had a box top on it! Your child can bring them to school in an envelope, paper lunch bag or baggie. I have a red bowl in my classroom that I am collecting them in. I will drop them off to Mrs. Nimigean and Mr. Muck (next door to my classroom) periodically.
Thanks for your help!!
We have been studying Mexico. The students got to plan a trip to Mexico today in class. They got to choose the airline, resort & tourist attractions they wanted. They LOVED this activity!! It was fun to hear them talk about their "trip" to Mexico!
As a reminder, the last day of 3rd quarter is next FRIDAY, March 27th. The last day to take AR tests is next THURSDAY, March 26th.
This year is FLYING by!! We just talked earlier this week about how quickly their 6th grade year is going by.
I think we are all (teachers, students, parents) looking forward to spring break!! We are off Good Friday (April 3rd) and return to school on Monday, April 13th.
