We survived our first week at the Junior High! I think the biggest frustrations were lockers and the concept of changing classes. I love watching 6th graders when they get their locker assignments and are opening their lockers the first few times. I don't know if they can get any closer to the numbers or turn their bodies in more awkward positions as they are finding the next number on the combination.
Changing classes: My homeroom students have the following schedule.
1st hour: Exploratory (band, strings, art, computers, gym)
2nd hour: Social Studies
3rd hour: Writing
5th hour: Math (Mrs. Wood)
6th hour: Science (Ms. Currie)
Please help your child understand that when one class is over, they may put everything they had in class for that particular subject away and get their belongings for the next subject they have. This was a very hard concept for some students to grasp. They have all done a better job with this today!
Pretesting: All teachers have to give baseline assessments for the classes they teach. I gave a reading pretest last week and my social studies pretest today. I'm just as ready to move past pretests as all the kids are!!
Later this week:
Wednesday: Picture Day :)
Thursday: Wear Red, White & Blue
I hope you had a good weekend. A couple hot days early this week and cooler temperatures at the end of the week to hopefully to stick around!!
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me!
