SS: I think we are doing pretty good getting all the bugs out learning about the Chromebooks. Students are getting more used to their online SS textbook and what is has to offer. I think they are also getting a pretty good handle on Docs. The biggest obstacle is getting them to realize that their work automatically saves for them as they are working so there isn't a chance of losing it, unless they delete it. Thank you for being patient during this learning experience. I hope we can only go up from here!!
Reading: ALL AR goals are out! A few students have already met their goal (WOW!) and many are on their way to meeting their goal. Students may take AR tests during homeroom or silent reading time. Our first trip to the Media Center is next Wednesday, September 24th. We will be going every OTHER Wednesday during our reading class, 4th hour. Please remind your child to remember their ID every time we go to the library. I lock my classroom door so they will not be able to stop back up to the room if they forget their ID and I will not allow them to go to their lockers. I will be reminding them leading up to our first trip to the media center to bring their ID with them and I will have them write it in their planners. During media center time, students are encouraged to check out books to read. Once they are finished finding books, they may sit at a table and silently read. There is absolutely NO TALKING in the media center while choosing books or reading. This will be strictly enforced by both myself and Mrs. Mohn, the media center specialist. There are computers in the media center they may take AR tests at as well.
Writing: We are preparing to write a personal narrative. We have been doing different lessons and writing short pieces in class. We are always working on detail and sentence structure. I have to remind students often that they are writing a paper, not texting :)
Football games: The homecoming football game is tomorrow night! There is a junior high student section in the bleachers. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Eltschlager have been reminding all JHS students during morning and afternoon announcements what the appropriate behavior is in the JHS student section. Students are asked to remain seated during the game. They may walk to the restrooms or concession stand but need to return to their seats promptly. If students are not following the rules of the JHS student section, they will be asked to either sit with their parents or be picked up by a parent. This is for the safety of all of our students. GO MULES!!
I'm loving these fall days we have been having--fall is my favorite time of year! I hope you're looking forward to going to apple orchards and pumpkin patches as much as I am!
Have a great weekend!
